Egypt Customs issued several updates to import clearance procedures in early 2026, covering documentation, inspection processes, and fee calculations. Here are the key changes and 8ship's response plan.
Egypt Customs 2026 Key Changes├── ACID upgrade: Pre-registration now requires first 6 digits of HS Code├── Low-value goods: Under $150 exempt from duty, but 14% VAT applies├── Brand authorization: POA required for trademarked/copyrighted goods├── Inspection rate: Increased from 15% to 25% for certain categories├── Documentation: Commercial invoice must show FOB + freight + insurance└── Digital processing: All documents submitted via Nafeza platform
ACID System Upgrade
The air cargo pre-information declaration now requires the first 6 digits of the HS Code. Sellers should confirm HS Code classification with 8ship customer service before shipping.
Low-Value Goods Policy
Goods under $150 remain duty-free but are subject to 14% VAT. Note the VAT threshold differs from the duty threshold.
Brand Authorization
Imports involving trademarks or brands require a Power of Attorney (POA) from the brand owner. This requirement is being strictly enforced from 2026. 8ship recommends brand sellers prepare POA documents in advance.
8ship's Response
- Upgraded EDI system for automatic HS Code and ACID validation
- Provides POA templates and guidance for clients
- Increased local customs team staffing
- Launched 24/7 customs exception handling channel
"Egypt is a market with huge potential, but also the most complex customs environment in the Middle East," said 8ship's Egypt lead. "We have a 20-person local team in Cairo dedicated to clearance issues."
