On September 24 a Shenzhen seller sent me a screenshot: a full container of toys held at Dammam for 11 days. The reason was one line — no G-Mark.
He ships children's building blocks and declared them as general cargo. That is the problem. Gulf states enforce G-Mark for toys. Without it you cannot even pull a SABER certificate in the Saudi system.
Honestly, toys are the most profitable Q4 category in the Middle East, and the easiest to get wrong. White Friday lands in November. Booking now still works; certification delays do not.
In my experience a toy SKU takes four to six weeks from testing to G-Mark. Three weeks for an EN71 or ISO 8124 report, two more for the certificate. Rush service cuts it to about two weeks at double the cost, roughly RMB 15,000 to 20,000 per model.
Then comes SABER. A PCoC per shipment, an SCoC per batch, SAR 300 to 800 per HS line. Do not try to sneak toys through as plastic products. Customs now cross-check description against code. Toys are 9503; declare 3926 and you go straight to inspection.
Labels trip people up too. Saudi requires Arabic age warnings, importer name and batch number on carton and product. Last month one of our 8ship containers of play kitchen sets got flagged because the pack only said "3+" in English. Five extra days.
Three things you can do today. First, move all toy SKUs by sea before October 10. Ningbo to Jeddah is 28 days plus three days clearance, which gets you into the warehouse before November. Second, fly your hero SKUs; Guangzhou to Riyadh runs RMB 38 to 45 per kilo, about 12% above August, still cheaper than a stockout. Third, align model number, batch number and G-Mark number across invoice, packing list and SABER certificate. One mismatch means a query.
Egypt is harder. Toys also need GOEIC registration, eight weeks minimum. Iraq does not check G-Mark yet, but random inspection in Baghdad runs above 30% from what I see.
Put plainly, for toys certification is not a cost. It is the ticket in. So — is your Q4 toy line G-Marked yet?
