Last week I asked a Shenzhen forwarder about space to Riyadh after Oct 20. Quote: $7.2/kg, nearly 30% higher than early September. The ones grabbing pallets aren't big e-commerce accounts — they're restock orders landing right after Golden Week.
It happens every year. In the two weeks after the holiday, South China–Gulf pallets get swept once, and the real crunch lasts only 10 to 14 days. My experience: if you haven't locked space by Oct 25, you're paying spot in November.
Example. A small-appliance client flew 2.4 tons Guangzhou–Riyadh, 5 days transit, 3 days clearance. He had Saber certificates and Arabic labels done in advance, so nothing stuck. Another shipment without labels sat in Dammam for 6 days.
Put simply, Q4 isn't a freight-rate fight. It's a readiness fight.
Three things I'd do: split air and sea — hero SKUs by air, long tail via Jeddah; book 10 days out and demand written space confirmation; send clearance docs to your forwarder 48 hours before pickup for pre-check. Most urgent jobs 8ship handles are ones where paperwork moved first.
But don't pile on air freight blindly. For SKUs under $15, air eats the margin — stock overseas earlier instead.
So how's your restock timing this year — pressed into October, or dragged to November?
