A Shenzhen seller asked me yesterday: "If I ship in December for Ramadan, will it make it?" Short answer: no.
The 2027 calendar is brutal. Ramadan starts February 8. Chinese New Year lands February 17, nine days later. When factories shut, you cannot replenish. When Ramadan selling starts, you cannot run out.
The real cutoff is not December. It is mid-November. Ningbo or Shenzhen to Jeddah runs 25-30 days at sea, plus 8-10 days for clearance and inland delivery. That is 45 days door to door. To be in the warehouse by January 20, you need to sail around November 20. Pre-CNY congestion means booking five weeks out, not five days out.
My rule: 60% by sea, rate locked before November 20. 40% by air in early January, 5-7 days door to door at roughly $6-7.5/kg. Never put every Ramadan SKU in one container.
Freight is not what bites you. SABER is. SASO certificates take three to five weeks; applying in January means missing January. Fix Arabic labels and the Saudi National Address short code now, while you still have slack.
One more thing people forget: in the first week of Ramadan, last mile slows down. Saudi working hours shrink and couriers add two to three days. COD settlement stretches too, so budget the cash flow.
Warehouse space in Riyadh and Jeddah is gone by November, and rates are up 15-20%. Arrive without a slot and you pay whatever they ask. We at 8ship watch the same pattern every year.
So what should you do this week? Pull your SKU list, mark every Ramadan item, and find out which ones are still stuck waiting on certification.
